From high above a sun washed coastal town, rooftops, harbour, headland, the whole beautiful sprawl of a seaside village going about its day, two hands descend with a rolling pin and get to work. The Pacific Ocean rolls in from the horizon with its usual confidence. The rolling pin meets it. The waves flatten. The ocean, which has been doing this for approximately four billion years without anyone's input, is being rolled smooth like a sheet of fresh pasta, or possibly the base of the most ambitious pizza in the history of the Pacific Rim.
Waves Roller is a surreal collage art print that takes the two most satisfying things about a coastal town, the view and the food and combines them into something that is simultaneously absurd, beautiful and deeply, inexplicably correct. The muted greens and greys of the landscape, the silver white of the flattened ocean, the warm wood of the rolling pin, it is a composition that works as pure coastal art before you register the joke and becomes something else entirely once you do.
